I am a family law attorney and have practiced law for nearly 30 years. I represent clients going through a divorce or experiencing conflict after a divorce, and also represent never married parents who are dealing with child custody, parenting time, and child support issues. I help people with adoptions, grandparents’ rights, and those confronting harassment restraining orders or orders for protection. Getting divorced or arguing with an ex about your child is a very difficult experience and not knowing how the law and the court system work adds to the stress and uncertainty. I help people navigate this complex and exhausting process with compassion, empathy, knowledge, and practicality. I work with my clients to understand all of the options and processes available including mediation, early neutral evaluation, hiring experts to evaluate custody and property division matters, settlement negotiations, and motion hearings or court trials.

I grew up in South Dakota and attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls. I attended law school at the University of Minnesota and have since lived and practiced law in Austin, MN, Minneapolis, and Kansas. My first experience as a lawyer was working as a law clerk for a district court judge. I have a broad range of legal knowledge and have at one time or another practiced in the areas of litigation, criminal law, bankruptcy, real estate, estate planning, and family law. Over the years I concentrated more and more on family law, and today my practice is devoted almost entirely to that area. My familiarity with other areas of law helps me advise my family law clients when they need help with another area of law.

My family and I moved to New Ulm in 2001. I have been fortunate to serve on the boards of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, the Lind House, and the Oak Hills Living Center, and through those experiences have met many people and learned a lot about New Ulm and Brown County. I am a member of the Family Law section of the Minnesota Bar Association.

You are welcome to send me mail.
